Yuli Geszti
Yuli Geszti, born in 1953, came of age in the artistic milieu of the 1970s, deeply influenced by
the prevailing creative atmosphere. During this era, Conceptual- ism emerged as a response to
Minimalism and stood as a pioneering art movement of the 1970s, pushing the boundaries of art with its revolutionary characteristics. Today, Yuli resides and works in Rio de Janeiro, where she
operates from her atelier in Cosme Velho. Since 1994, she has been wholeheartedly devoted to the craft of painting with acrylics on canvas. Yuli delves into the intricate aspects of painting,
addressing concerns like the illusion of volume, the interplay between figures and backgrounds,
and the interplay of light and shadow.
Her artwork possesses a magnetic quality, capturing the observer's gaze and guiding them through the intricate interplay of planes and reliefs, cleverly accentuated by bands of contrasting colors. Speaking about the core concepts of her work, Yuli explains, "My artistic pursuit is driven by a daring challenge: to craft the illusion of three-dimensional volumes on the flat canvas surface, using only brushes and ink. These volumes take shape as unconventional objects emerging from a two-dimensional foundation."
