Miguel Gontijo is from Santo Antonio do Monte, Minas Gerais, and currently lives in Belo Horizonte. He is a graduate in history and philosophy, and post-graduate in Art and Contemporaneity. He received several awards throughout most of the national territory and had several individual exhibitions, with works in public entities in Brazil and abroad. In 2004 he published the book Profanas Scripta, which the following year was released in Portugal with the plastic exhibition of the same title. With his contemporary look, he subverts the order of things. His paintings exchange themes, motifs and techniques with other arts, another time. Sometimes it shows the past, sometimes it is the present that imposes itself.

Defining the artistic lineage of Miguel Gontijo's 50 year career can be a challenge, given the varied aesthetic resources for the expression of his visual language. His experienced work can be defined as a personal diary, where everyday objects and historial references are constantly present. Gontijo's painting presents remarkable and peculiar characteristics, most notably Miguels talent's for gathering all of the myths, fables, and true stories of literature & art to then combine them all together in order to weave new stories to life through his masterful artistic techniques. One can see how effortlessly he decorates his canvas through his drawings which blend in marvelously with collages of objects that become dazzling work's of art.
