Laerte Ramos
Laerte Ramos (Brazil/São Paulo, SP, 1978) stands out in the panorama of Brazilian contemporary art, especially for his engraving production and ceramic installations. He works with different languages such as woodcuts, screen printing, painting, sculpture, tapestry, objects, using techniques and materials that challenge him as an artist-researcher. Graduated in fine arts from Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado-FAAP in Bachelor (2001) and Degree (2002), the research he undertakes has as its main guiding axis the reproductive means of the image, the serializations on different supports and the relationship with the cities in that are produced or displayed.
His works go beyond the character of mere unitary pieces and cross different languages to modify the understanding of them and the space in which they are inserted. Since the second half of the 1990s, Laerte Ramos has participated in important group exhibitions and, in the last 26 years, he has held several solo exhibitions, in Brazil and abroad. He participated in artistic residency programs (France, Switzerland, Holland, Portugal, United States and China) and was awarded awards, among which the Swiss Lelocleprints award (2004), the Marcantônio Vilaça Award – Pró Cultura/ MinC (2004) can be highlighted ( editions of 2012 and 2013), and the Exhibitions of Artists Abroad Award from the Fundação Bienal de São Paulo/Phoenix Institute of Contemporary Arts (2011).
He represented Brazil at Expo Milano / 2015 with a large ceramic installation that occupied the Octagon of the Pinacoteca de São Paulo the previous year. He has a record 54 solo exhibitions, 8 participations in artistic residencies and 32 awards as an artist. As a curator, Laerte has 13 exhibitions and three awards, highlighting the Marcantônio Vilaça Award in 2020 with the exhibition “Comprehension of Air” or (E = M2).
He has also worked as a curator since 2017 and is director of Ar: Acervo Rotativo - an independent collection of contemporary art in small dimensions. The head of the production company “Studium Generale” enables several fronts for the exchange of knowledge with residence in its studio and exhibition projects among other cultural partnerships. He lives and works in São Paulo.
