Guava De Art
Guava De Art, also known as Ron Howell, is a self-taught artist hailing
from Antigua and Barbuda, whose work spans a vast array of
mediums, including illustration, painting, sculpting, 3D modeling, art
toy creation, and digital drawing/animation. His versatile artistic style
has garnered international acclaim, with his pieces reaching audiences
in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, and beyond.
The nickname Guava originated in his childhood when his mother
would send him to school with guavas, earning him the affectionate
title of "Guava Man" from his peers—a name that has stayed with him
throughout his life.
Having studied Television and Video Production in Canada, Guava
began his professional painting career in 2007. Over time, he opened
his own art gallery, starting in his mother's house and later relocating
to the vibrant Redcliffe Quay in Antigua.
Guava’s art is deeply personal, born from his desire to protect himself
from the harshness of the world. "Born on this planet and saw how
mankind is," he says, "I decided to cover myself in strips of canvas to
shield me from sadness, anger, stress, and everything negative the
world throws at me." His eyes are intentionally concealed, but his
heart is exposed, symbolizing his belief in judging others not by their
outward appearance, but by their character. His work invites viewers
to engage with him on a deeper, more human level, reflecting both
vulnerability and strength.
