Charlyn Reynolds
Charlyn Reynolds lives and works in Miami, Florida. Reynolds received her Master of Fine Art
from the University of Texas-Arlington in Intermedia-Glass. Most recently she was a
demonstrating artist at the Detroit Glass Art Society Conference. She specializes in hot sculpted
glass and mixed media. Stemming from the absurdity of her childhood, she creates fantastical
creatures out of glass that are a seamless blend of two completely different animals. These
creatures live in “The Amber Grotto”, a fantastical gold and amber world evoking a childlike
sense of wonder. Her unique contemporary practice combines high and low materials such as
bronze, foam, paint, glitter, plastic, and glass while masking their true identities and values. The
expensive becomes commonplace, and the commonplace becomes luxury. Nothing is what it
seems in “The Amber Grotto”.
Her past artist-in-residences includes Gent Glas in Ghent, Belgium, Studio Kura in Fukuoka, Japan, The Melting Point in Sedona, AZ, and Neusole Glassworks in Cincinnati, OH. Selected solo exhibitions include “Colorful Hybrids” (2024) at Duncan McClellan Gallery, St. Petersburg, Florida, “The Amber Grotto” (2019) at 414 Fabrication Street Gallery, Dallas, Texas, and “True Whimsy” (2018) at Studio Kura, Itoshima, Japan.
